The Curse of the Wind

The weather here has really been flip flopping lately. We've had some real cold and snowy days...here's Jansen contemplating whether or not to brave the winter weather. He finally went outside with Nate for a little bit. It was probably for only 10 minutes or so because Jansen was hating the wind.

Now for the flip flop! Today's high was 68. Of course we headed to the park. As we pulled up Jansen was so excited saying, "The park! Look at the brown slide!" But as soon as I opened the car door to get him out and he felt the wind (it was really windy, but it was warm) he refused to get out of the car and started grabbing at his head...his defense against the wind. So Jansen spent the next 45 minutes sitting in the car eating fruit snacks and Cheerios and playing with his car seat buckle while Natalie and I enjoyed the weather and the company of friends. He was totally happy in there...he only got mad when I would come open the door and check on him and some wind would blow in. This behavior has Nate worried that he won't have a camping and birding companion...but there's still hope for Natalie! (And Jansen of course.)

I can't believe he was content to just sit in the car for 45 minutes! I so understand Jansen's quirkiness, Evie is the same way! She likes things just so, and will not participate if they aren't the way she wants them to be. Not a brat, just particular. I would be more irritated by this behavior, except I think she gets it from me! Anyway, it makes them so interesting and lovable doesn't it?

Isn't it funny the things that are passed from one generation to another? I recall that Grandma Becca doesn't enjoy a winday day either.

I do think wind is irritating. But I wonder if it bothers his ears. You probly have them covered with a hat though, so maybe not. Wind just makes me nervous. love, mom

Don't worry Jansen...I don't like wind either! I would have been right there with you in the car eating fruit snacks!

Cute little Jansen - I miss you so much! Grandma Kim has never been fond of wind, either! Jess, your Mom might be onto something - maybe it does bother his ears? Do I also remember that he reacts the same way to bright sun in his eyes?
Maybe he just has a "grown-up" awareness of some of the things that just don't usually "phase" little kids quite yet? I also love his interest and ability to "do the dirt"! Can you send him out here for awhile? (ha, ha). And I noticed the nicely lined up train waiting patiently on the kitchen table while Jansen swept!!! What a kid!
