Yuck!

Sometimes I just assume that Jansen knows what things he should and shouldn't touch. I saw this dead fly on the windowsill but figured he would have some innate sense that it was disgusting (so he wouldn't want to touch it) and walked in the other room for a minute. I came back and found that I had made some very wrong assumptions. I snapped a few pictures before getting rid of the fly and washing his hands. I think in the second one he had just ripped the fly's wings off. Should I be concerned about the look of enjoyment on his face?

He's just a chip off the ol' block. When his daddy was little, while playing in the backyard sandbox he used to catch daddy-long-legs and pluck all their legs off, and then bury the "seed-shaped" body thinking it would grow a daddy-long-leg tree. If you ask me, Jansen's just gettin' started!

Clayton Rawson would be proud!

i'm with jansen. there are times after a fly has buzzed around me for a few hours that killing it just isn't enough. you have to pull its legs and wings off...make it suffer.

besides, jansen can pull the legs off flys if he wants to.

love, mom

Becca, that's SO true! I was on a 50-mile backpacking trip in the mountains in Washington once and the flies were INSANELY terrible. Literally every second of every day you were constantly swatting at clouds of biting flies--like house flies but blood-thirsty little devils. One day, my friend had had enough so he killed a big mama fly, pulled its head off with tweezers and put its body in a book of matches. He then ignited the book of matches and torched the body, while holding the flies head and making it watch its own body burn!!!!! It was sweet revenge. So I know what you mean that sometimes just killing them isn't enough!

I totally agree about Clayton Rawson. I was actually thinking of him the other day and was wondering how he turned out.
