It's Inevitable

Natalie asked to sleep with the soccer ball a few nights ago. And she often says to me, "Mommy, I want to play soccer!" I just have this sense that she is going to love the sport and play it for awhile. I couldn't be more thrilled. The smell of freshly cut grass will take on a new meaning for her and crazy tan lines will be become a part of life. I miss soccer.

Though lately I have been wanting to rip my hair out. Natalie whines SO MUCH and I feel like 75% of her communication with us is in this voice that makes me crazy. We are making some progress as I am figuring out what works best to help her stop, but man some days I just want to sit down and cry. These things are so temporary, and she will outgrow it, but today was just one of those days.

She truly does look like a little soccer star. I'm sure she will be as thin, tall, beautiful and athletic like her mother. Her only fault is she will probably trash talk like her mother too.

Yeah, the whole whine-all-day-make-mom-crazy thing is going on at my house right now too. I have to try really hard not to scream instead of cry. I would love to hear what works!

I am thankful for friends that have kids close to Nick's age because when times are tough (which feels more often than not right now) I know someone else is dealing with it too...and that there is hope for it to pass. :) BTW...can't wait to see Natalie the soccer star!

It's all in the name...my Natalie feels the same way about soccer!

I never played soccer myself, but I am a 7 year soccer mom veteran. Though I adore watching my chickie, it's losing some of it's allure. Now it's on the HUGE field, she has a "position", and I really miss the big mass of little girls in outfits too big for them running down the 20 ft long field. Unfortunately, Natalie doesn't agree with me, she thinks its the greatest thing. I guess I'm in for the long haul!

Oh I hear ya!!
I hope you have success with the stopping of the whining someday soon too!
That smile melts your heart though right?
Good thing they are cute or we'd be in trouble huh?

You totally captured the experience of growing up playing soccer:

"The smell of freshly cut grass will take on a new meaning for her and crazy tan lines will be become a part of life."

I remember having separate lines for regular socks, soccer socks, and even the shin guards underneath the socks, complete with the strap in the back.

This time of year always makes me long to play. The med school pickup games are back in action, but I think I'm too pregnant to join in at this point, sadly. I hope M loves soccer as well. She kicks better than she throws, and I take that as a positive sign. :)

I miss soccer also. I just got back from my Stake indoor soccer game (scored 2 goals..woot woot!!) and started thinking how much I like playing (even though I didn't play in highschool, I still love it) On the way home I was thinking how fun it was to have an adult womens soccer league.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that wants to pull my hair out because of a whiny child. Sometimes I'm sure I'm not cut out for this parenting thing.
