Bean

What you can't tell from this picture is that the child has a bean up her nose. It's been there since Saturday. We have an appointment at 11:45 to get it out...this could be interesting.

She and Cody could be soul mates. A few days ago, he pulled a big BUTTON out of his nose. But at least he got it out before I even knew it was there.

What is that impulse? The impulse that says, "Golly, I wonder what this little ________ (fill in the blank) would feel like if it were up my nose?" Why? Why? What kind of sense does that make??? I mean, I know that babies learn by putting stuff in their mouths, but what sensory need is fulfilled by putting stuff in your nose? I ask you.

Please, you have to tell us how this goes! Carrie would have immense sympathy for you. Her kids have put crayons and stickers up their noses, and just yesterday Ali shoved a granola bar in her ear canal.

But, just in case you have sympathy for Carrie...don't. It is genetic and she gave this tendency to her children (and perhaps to yours too!) I have a distinct memory of watching her line up dry beans on the window ledge and then shoving them one by one up her nose. I REMEMBER THIS. Which means, she was old enough to know better...

Sometimes I feel like reading your blog is a glimpse into my future. So I'm adding to my list "take child to dr. for removal of food item".

When Zach was two he put a screw up his nose. It was very traumatic for him. After a trip to the pediatrician and then an a appointment with the ENT we finally got it out. To this day when we go to the Dr. he says " I don't want to be tied down mamma". Good luck, I hope all goes well. Let us know how it goes.
