Pulled this out of the shower drain:
Not the paper towels and stuff...those weren't jammed down the drain. Just all that all black gunk. That long white contraption you can see in the picture is called a Zip-It and it so wonderful. If you have never used one, you slide it all the way down your clogged drain and then pull it up and it drags all the disgustingness up with it. I think it says on the package to only us it once but that is rubbish. You just have to carefully clean it off (it's kinda sharp.) Once when we lived in an apartment our drain was clogged so badly I had to have the maintenance guy come take the drain apart. He was in the bathroom working on it and I was in the other room and I heard him call, "Jessica!" I went into the bathroom and he said, "You know you aren't allowed to have pets here," as he held up this mass of hair and putrid crud the size of a rat. I think it was the culmination of many years of renters' hair. So gross. So so gross.

ummm...that is gross. and yet, i think my husband will love that tool when its time to do the drain again!:)

Yikes, Ick, Bleh, and thanks. I actually spend at least twenty dollars a month in Drano, so perhaps I should just invest in a zip it. Unfortunately, I don't have the stomach to pull cruddies up from the drain, so this will be a Shane job for sure!
That is disgusting. I don't think I could ever clean out my drain and see what would come out of it. Way to go!!
