Winter Walkthrough

I just dumped some popcorn kernels on the floor and told my kids to drop them in different sized containers so that I could have a second alone to start this post. They're practicing an "indoor activity." It's all part of the walkthrough. You'll see what I mean.
I played basketball in high school and we always had walkthroughs on game day. We would review and practice our plays and other aspects of the game that needed polishing. It was all a simulation of the upcoming game.
Today was a winter walkthrough in Ohio. It was unseasonally and suddenly cold and it got me thinking...Jessica, do you:

-know where coats, gloves, and hats are for you and the kids?

-have an adequate supply of hot chocolate on hand?

-feel prepared to keep your kids busy with "indoor activities" on those cold days where you never even set foot outside the house?

-remember how to turn the heater on, or more importantly, remember that it doesn't have to ALWAYS be on?

-need to get another blanket for the bed?

-have some footed pajamas for Natalie?
-have some ideas for warm breakfasts?
The list could go on and on. I almost cried today when I pulled my little travel sunscreen out of my purse and realized I wouldn't be needing it for awhile. Like I said though, this was only walkthrough. Just getting me prepared and reminding me that winter IS coming. But I think it's going to be in the 70s for several of the days in the next week. And you can bet I will be outside enjoying it and basking in the last little bit of warmth!

I decided today that I am SOO glad I put Julia in preschool. I think we would both go crazy. We'll just have to plan lots of indoor activities together!

I'm not sure I will make it through this winter. I am still recovering from last winter. And what about my hammock?

Can I just tell you that I LOVE this time of year! It's so great. I LOVE the cold. I LOVE the snow. I LOVE being inside snuggled up with hot chocolate and a book. I hope you can come up with some fun and entertaining this for the little stinkers to do. Also, I went and got a chocolate donut and coke slurpee the other day. It made me miss you.
