Two Thumbs Up For Thumb Sucking!

Thumb sucking has not been a part of my life to this point. I didn't do it, Jansen certainly didn't do it, Nate still doesn't do it, etc. Then along came Natalie. She has started sucking her thumb! I have NEVER thought thumb sucking was cute...until now. I think she is just adorable when she does it and it has made my life SOOOO much easier because she soothes herself with it. When I lay her down for her naps she finds her thumb and starts sucking and drifts off to sleep. (For the most part.) Anyone had experience with this? Is this going to become a problem?

So far, toe sucking has not had the same soothing effect. But a cool trick nonetheless!

I remember Grandpa Dix told me could fit all 10 toes in his mouth! Toenails included!

What a cute little thing! She is just adorable and her little lips around her thumb! We have yet to take on the challenge of a Thumb with our kids. Good luck, oh and how is the potty training going? i still need to give you some tips if you need them!

Kyle and Janel - I can use the potty training tips!
Jes, Brookie is trying so hard to suck her thumb. She will nibble on it, but hasn't quite latched onto it yet. Oh, I hope she does. Maybe I'm crazy, but after my binki experience with Kyle I'd like to try the thumb sucking. Although, I do have a niece who had a very hard time breaking the thumb-sucking. She is almost 5 now and occasionaly still sucks her thumb. I don't know!

jess, you'll have to ask my mom. she just told me today about how i cried incosolably every night for 3 months until the day i found my thumb. but i've never heard stories about it being an annoying habit later on!

i say (and what do i know?)that you should take what you can get right now, and cross that bridge (the worries about later on) when you come to it!

I think it's cute as well. Metta sucked her thumb starting in the womb and she turned out just fine! I think it's fabulous! much easier than a binky cause it's free and always available. We asked for a binky the second zeb popped out. Anything to get them to fall sleep by themselves :) A lot of people are anti thumb and binky, but I say whatever makes baby happy makes mom happy too.

Ty was a major thumb sucker when he was younger. I loved it, too, because he could sooth himself to sleep. He gave it up at about 6 months. I guess that's a good thing, but I sure wish he had a trick to get himself back to sleep now!

metta didn't give up thumb sucking until after kindergarten. in fact her teacher thought she was being abused at home and one of the school counselors pulled her out of class once to ask her about it. but she started the day she was born, and i am sure she sucked her thumb in the womb. if natalie just started she can't be all that attatched.

I've never had a thumb sucker, but I think anything that makes mom's life easier can't be a bad thing! Besides, she looks so adorable doing it...but the toe sucking I might discourage it due to the social issues involved.
