I've purchased a couple things lately that have brought me happiness.
I don't remember where I first heard of Folex, but I kept hearing about it so I needed to try it. You can get a big bottle at Home Depot for about $5. The label says that the product is non-toxic, non-flammable, odor-free and CFC and Petroleum Free. It's also non-ionic...meaning there is no negative or positive charge which keeps the area from attracting dirt to it. I have not tested it on the the long list of stains it claims to be able to remove, but it has been like magic on all the small dark spots on our carpet. Spray some on, rub with finger, blot up with washcloth, spot is gone.
I grabbed this little book at Barnes and Noble for about $5 too. I know I have a blog, but I don't want to record every single funny thing my kids say on here. That's what this book will be for. I am keeping it in a cupboard in the kitchen, and I just pull it out and jot down the things Jansen and Natalie say. I could have made my own book of course, using a notebook or something. I can see myself misplacing or losing something like that though. For some reason this hardcover, published book makes me want to write things down and I know I won't lose it over the years. I think it will be a real treasure 20 years from now.

never heard of Folex, but I'm always in the market for stain removers.
Two things I'm going out to get!!
I'm going to have to buy me some Folex! Thanks for the tip. Wish I would've known about it while we've lived in this yucky carpeted house.
And I what a great book. I keep a notebook in the cupboard in the kitchen too for just such phrases, but it's not as durable/long-lasting as a book. My latest entry was "pankcake patter"--meaning spatula.
