To find the right Christmas tree.
But this little evergreen is just not going to cut it. Although my heart melted as I watched Natalie jam those plastic ornaments into the tree until they stayed put, I knew we had to go BIGGER. (Not so big that we have to cut off part of the tree so it will fit in our house...happened last year.)
Like I said, it's no easy task. I mean, you have to examine the branches...
If you're the spiritual type, you wait for inspiration from above...
You have to get to know the tree. Talk to it. Hold its needles. Pet it.
You have to get to know the tree. Talk to it. Hold its needles. Pet it.
Sometimes those you love dearly will suggest trees that are obviously not up to par...it's exasperating dealing with these people.
There will be moments when you will be torn...torn between your love for Douglas Firs and your fixation with Fraser Firs.
But when you see THE ONE, you will know. My child, you will know.
That's not to say that you won't have doubts after you have committed yourself to one.

So cute! I love that your narrations fit her expressions exactly. :)
"It makes daddy want to say his first swear"
...First swear? What a life!
That was very clever, very clever indeed.
very funny!!! she has so many great expressions! it looks like your tree will be perfect....despite a crooked trunk. It's funny that you mentioned that because i swear (no pun intended) that EVERY year we would put out real tree up we always heard some words from my dad that made us raise our eyebrows! ha!
Great story.
that was hilarious! Thanks for sharing!
Oh my gosh Jess I laughed so hard at your last comment! Your little Natalie is adorable. Ahh the Joys of nature made things
This should be a book!! I would read this to my kids by the fire every year for chirstmas if it was a book!! There is a begining, a middle and the end. Adventure, conflict and happiness. Jessica, you did gooood!! Ofcourse having your little girl being so dang cute in the pictures completed this awesome story.
Nate told us all about that crooked trunk! Loved your commentary. Where is that place you went? Looks fun. We just went to Lowe's.
Those pics are seriously funny! I am glad you got your tree...can't wait to see decorated!
I had to have Tyler come and read this too. You are always so creative and entertaining. Your kids are going to LOVE reading this someday.
How fun to go pick out your very own tree together as a family. Ours is fake. Our kids helped us pick it out of our garage!! (from storage)
I think the book is a great idea! Natalie has more expressions!
Again, one of the BEST blog posts EVER! I read it to Shane and we laughed together. Especially the first swear part. Hold on to your virtue Nate! Don't cave in! It will be so damn worth it!
You are amazing! Natalie and Jansen are so blessed to have you as a Mommy!
Natalie sure seems like a little tree finding pro! She has a talent!
