Rice Question

Nate and I have always eaten the white, most inexpensive rice and it's never very impressive to put on the dinner table. We want something new. What kind of rice do you buy or recommend? I am not really looking for rice cooking methods, I think that is something I will just have to play around with, but I would like to know brands and where you get it. Any suggestions?

Shane, post mission, would only eat "Calrose" rice. It's the super sticky, Japanese style rice. I have to admit, it's much better than Uncle Ben's. I really like Brown Rice, but it takes FOREVER to cook, and doesn't store really well. I also love cooked barley, it also takes forever to cook, but if you think about it early enough in the day, you're fine! My kids are obsessed with Rice-a-Roni, which is yummy, but packed with calories and salt. Good luck! Rice is Nice!

I agree with the calrose rice being the best white rice. It is way better than all the others. However, we have switched to brown rice only in our little family. It is actually really good if you are willing to wait for it to cook. We buy the cheapest brand. It takes about 40-50 minutes on the stove or 2 hours in the rice cooker. Just make sure and add plenty of water (even a little more than it calls for). And if you cook it on the stove, watch it toward the end so it doesn't run out of water & burn.

Jamine Rice or brown rice...the best!

Rick loves BOTAN (Calrose) sticky rice. They grew up with Japanese exchange students. I like that, but prefer Jasmine, I believe.

Ok, we do brown instant rice that cooks in a bag. It's called Success Rice (and there are a few knock off brands of it). I think it's quite good. A different option to try anyway. :)

Yes, clrose rice is the best white rice. Botan is the best brand I have found. It has a big red flower on the front. I buy it in the 20lb bag at Super Walmart. I use calrose rice in most recipes. I like Jasmine for asian dishes only. And if I have the time I use brown rice. I haven't found a brown rice that is my favorite yet.

walmart brand minute brown rice. It's fast, tasty, and the healthier alternative.

Ahhh yes... bedtime... that must be how they survive to the age of 3. We will be having MANY of those around here for the next year. :) Laughing about this in 5 years sounds fabulous but oh so FAR AWAY. You hang in there too! Good luck! Did you remember Jansen being this bad? Because I swear Jarrett was busy but not near as whiny and crying and screaming! Is it girls? MAN ALIVE! I could pull my own hair out.

And I wish I had an awesome suggestion for rice but we too, eat plain ol' white rice... but I've been checking people's answers for my own benefit... tee hee..
