My friend Kami calls Nate a Renaissance man...someone who is well educated or who excels in a wide variety of subjects or fields says Wikipedia...and I couldn't agree more. I have a few of my own talents as well (I make a really good chicken noise), but I am lacking in one particular domestic area. Sewing. I regret not taking sewing classes in high school and I got a sewing machine for Christmas last year but I haven't used it yet. Nate has needed a few minor repairs on some of his clothes and keeps politely mentioning it to me, but I never get around to it. And really, I don't know how to fix the things he needs fixed. I haven't even got the sewing machine going let alone produce something or repair something with it!
So last night he took matters into his own hands. He read through the sewing machine manual and eventually got it working. I was upstairs reading when he actually started the sewing and all I could hear were these really loud and fast revving sounds (not like the normal sounds of sewing machine) and then I would hear him laughing. Then I would start laughing from clear upstairs because it cracked me up to hear him laughing to himself as he tried to sew. Here is the tie he fixed:
He said it looks like this because he was afraid of the needle.
I laugh every time I look at it.

This is why I love your blog. This is the kind of post that keeps me comin' back. I love thinking of you guys laughing back and forth and hearing the whirring of the rampant machine...and that tie is to die for!
That's hilarious. Those needles are pretty scary. I am impressed you own a sewing machine. That is something I have yet to do.
That is SO funny! I laughed and laughed when I read this entry :) That's pretty impressive he even tried, though! I don't go near sewing machines...
:) Way to go, Nate!
Hey at least he tried to sew. Travis would just throw it away and buy a new one. And don't worry I wouldn't know how to use a sewing machine if I had one either. Hope things are going well.
i haven't laughed that hard in a long time...i'll have him repair all of beej's ties too..just so i can giggle!:0
I don't know why you would laugh at that every time you see it. I see nothing funny about it!!! JUST KIDDING, HILARIOUS!
hmmmmm, well should the Dr. thing not work out perhaps he could be a tailor??? LOL Thanks for a good laugh, I'm BEGGING him to wear that tie Sunday!
Best looking tie I've ever seen! ha too funny!!
I love that. That is so cool he just did it. Sounds like something Nate (my Nate) would do.
Each year when I get to the Renaissance in my World Civ and AP Euro classes I always talk about what it means to be a Renaissance Man like Leonardo Da Vinci or Michelangelo. And then Nate is mentioned as a modern day Renaissance Man. Tell Nate that I will teach him how to sew when he comes to Utah for Christmas, unless he's already mastered the skill by then.
I laughed so hard. I think I will look at this picture everytime I have a bad day
Oh that makes me laugh so much- maybe because my mom is so great at sewing- and she would get a kick out of it! I will show it to her.
