Oh My

The other day I was faced with a decision that I imagine many mothers of young boys face: do I paint my little guy's toenails for him if he asks me to? I was painting my toenails (flip flop season is fast approaching!) and he wanted me to paint his, so I decided I would, and every time I saw his toes throughout the day I just cringed and felt queasy inside. It was just wrong.
Then yesterday afternoon I was talking on the phone and I looked down and there was Jansen, beside a little puddle of red polish, painting away. I did as all good bloggers would do and first grabbed my camera. And then I sat there and snapped pictures of him and told him to look at me and smile, etc. all while trying to communicate to him that I was not happy.

"Jansen, this is very naughty." (take a picture)

"Jansen, you know mommy is mad right? Now look at me and smile" (I take another picture)

"Jansen, don't ever do this again. Look at me. Now show me your toes." (snap picture again)

Probably not my most effective teaching moment. The best part of the whole situation...Nate cleaned him all up...and quickly...he did not like seeing his son with bright red nail polish on.

I told you how Evie got ahold of my white "tip" nail polish and "painted" her toenails and then dumped it all over the carpet...unfortunately, I'm still a novice blogger and I was in the middle of making dinner and I didn't grab my camera...otherwise we'd have matching posts...just different nail colors!

i wouldn't feel too worried about him painting his toenails. it's just his artistic inclinations! bright colors are fun in any format. and i love the whole teaching moment bit. it is hard to be all disapproving when they are so entertaining! i always had that trouble when i was babysitting, and then again when i was teaching!

I think they're pretty. Jansen can polish his nails if he......you know. Love, mom.

I have been known to put mascara on Connor. I had to stop when he wanted to help me with my makeup all the time!

Well, the first thing my little boy said when he saw the pictures of Jansen was, "OH CUTE" very enthusiastically with a high pitched voice! I haven't told Christian but Kyle likes to put my eye shadow on himself. And I love what you said about trying to discipline while taking pictures. I always do that for the blog and then Kyle thinks that I think it's funny and then he really goes to town. The sacrifices we make for blog pictures!!

We are in the blogging era. Taking pictures and disciplining at the same time, or taking pictures of injuries. Always got to be ready with the camera!! Red is a good color on him, brings out his eyes! haha! just kidding.

Ben loves to have his toenails painted, too. Whenever he sees my toenails he asks for "pink toes." So I caved in and painted one toenail on each foot. Andy just shakes his head. :)
